Welcome to The Cyber Union. If you are new to the InfoSec community and want to find out how to get into the industry, check out are ever-growing "Getting Started" series. On this page you will find the resources you need to be successful and framework to operate from.
This blog is my way of giving back to a community that has given me so much in life. I have no idea where I would be if I never stumbled into infosec.
My primary audience for this blog are those just starting out in cyber security, are motivated, and looking to learn. Most of my posts and pages will be geared towards providing information to help you land your first job, and climb to an intermediate level job role. In the blogs I will cover both the blue and red side of cyber security skillsets such as forensics, SOC analysis, and pen testing.
Other sections of the site are devoted to equally important parts of life such as finances and travel. I write about these topics to encourage people not to work forever and to escape there terminal window every once in a while. You will see posts related to where I have been, what's saving me money, and how to retire early.
I am here for you! I want to help you have a short but healthy, fulfilling and fruitful career.

A Little About Me

I am Silverbits, a practitioner of both the defensive and offensive sides of cyber security. Both sides of infosec provide a unique challenge that scratches my itch to learn new things.
Previous to my career I was in the United States Army as an Infantryman who wasn't sure what he wanted to do for a living. After, I got out, I worked a short stint at a car rental agency and hated my life. It was there that I took my first cyber security course, learning to hack web sites. From that point I knew cyber security was where I was meant to be. After finishing the course, I put in my two week notice and never looked back.
During my career I have been a help desk analyst, a SOC Analyst, a forensic analyst, a malware analyst, an incident responder, a penetration tester and an instructor.
My ultimate goal is to one day retire to a life of research and travel. But of course that takes time and money. As I work to pay down debt and to afford my future lifestyle, I run a pen testing firm and work for other people doing incident response.
Outside of the work life, I am building The Cyber Union to help people find their way into an industry that I love. I want to use my experiences to provide an easier path into a field that can be confusing, and difficult to navigate.
I hope you enjoy my blog and find a fulfilling career in cyber security!
