Show Determination

Getting into Cyber Security can be hard but, having the knowledge and grit will get you there. I don't know how many times in a technical interview, I noted when an interviewee did no additional studying outside of school or their current job. Guess what? The candidate did not get an offer, ever! You don't have to be an expert to get a job, however you must show that you have passion and spend your spare time becoming better at your craft.

What to Study?

Honestly, it doesn't matter. Whether it's programming, web development, networking, system administration, just start focusing on something. Any topic related to how computers, networks, or web work will be of use to you and your potential employer. My advice is to work on a subject that is of interest to you, so that you are more inclined to spend your free time studying the topic. For me, I find studying easier when I find structured material because there is a start and an end. Luckily there are tons of structured resources available.

Conclusion

I hope this helps motivate you to  just get out there and study to your hearts content. Let me know of any additional structured resources you found helpful.
